Kansas City, MO. ─ Representatives from Krueger & James Insurance Company and Cowell Insurance Group officially announced their independent-held companies were merged on January 1, 2017, resulting in Cowell James Forge Insurance Group. The two companies bring more than 118 years of cumulative insurance experience into this merger.
Krueger & James Insurance Company is one of the area’s leading resources in providing insurance options for personal and business needs. A key agency strength is its ability to provide options from a wide-range of national insurance carriers which benefit clients through selective and highly personalized insurance choices. Krueger and James boast a 90-percent retention rate in customer renewals, a rate significantly higher than the national average.
LaDeena James, president and chief operating officer with CJF, had served as president at Krueger and James after she purchased the company in 2013. James has been recognized for her strong entrepreneurial leadership abilities as evidenced in 2013 by the Kansas City Business Journal, “Women Who Mean Business,” award and by being honored by Thinking Bigger Business Media with the “25 under 25” award.
James announced Jason Forge as a partner at Krueger and James in 2016 and he is currently the executive vice president and chief sales officer for CJF. “We remain laser-focused on our mission to deliver personalized customer service. Assisting each client understand and receive tailored insurance coverage specific to their unique need is a privileged responsibility,” shared Forge.
Krueger and James history includes a lengthy and established presence in the Kansas City area. The agency was originally formed in 1938 as a resource to provide personal insurance and real estate brokerage. The agency was purchased by family members in 1960 and was renamed Crain Agency.
In 1987 Kirk Krueger purchased the agency and it later became Krueger & Crain; that was also the year James joined the organization. She became a principal partner in 1996 and the company began to predominantly focus on commercial lines insurances. James purchased the agency in 2013.

Cowell Insurance Group was established by Lanny J. Cowell, CJF’s chief executive officer and chief financial officer. Cowell was the founding president at Cowell Insurance Group and the agency has been expanding and providing insurance coverage options in Southern Platte County, (MO.) since 1989.
An entrepreneurial spirit linked with Cowell’s extensive work experience in large agencies, provided him with the knowledge and practical expertise needed to launch Cowell Insurance Group. What began as a single-agent operation has developed into one of largest independent insurance agencies in the Kansas City Northland area.
